Emaar has launched its new “Dubai Trolley” tram system in Downtown Dubai. Covering a distance of 7km, Dubai Trolley will serve as a link between the various iconic attractions in Downtown Dubai including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall, the world’s most-visited retail and lifestyle destination.
Aligned along Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, the first phase of Dubai Trolley will cover a distance of 1 km and will have three stations to offer passengers easy access to The Dubai Mall, and The Address Downtown Dubai and Vida Downtown Dubai hotels. The first phase is scheduled for completion early next year.
With The Dubai Mall welcoming millions of visitors every month and Downtown Dubai’s hotels recording strong occupancy levels, Dubai Trolley will add to the convenience of residents and visitors in traversing the 500-acre development described as ‘The Centre of Now.’ They can also access Souk Al Bahar, The Dubai Fountain, several residential towers and myriad restaurants on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, one of the world’s most vibrant thoroughfares.
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, said: “Dubai Trolley is a smart urban mobility service that further builds on the trolley tram systems that are in use in several cities across the US and Europe. While they were a game-changer in public transport when first invented in the 1880s by introducing a new concept to urban mobility, they are now largely used as tourist attractions.
“We have innovated further on both design and technology, incorporating world-class features, for Dubai Trolley. An environmentally sustainable system that supports the development vision of the UAE, Dubai Trolley brings a convenient and user-friendly transit mode to Downtown Dubai. It will add tremendous value to residents and visitors, enabling them to effortlessly access the world-class attractions in the world’s most prestigious square kilometre,” he added.
Initially, Dubai Trolley will carry 74 passengers in double-decker trams that have the provision of open-deck and air-conditioned seating. Dubai Trolley will travel at an operational speed of 16 km/hr and has a maximum speed of 80 km/hr, which can be regulated according to requirement. Convenient crossings will be provided along the tramway to facilitate safe and easy pedestrian movement.
Dubai Trolley Terminus near Old Town Island will also feature several F&B offerings that add to the convenience of passengers. For all the latest transport news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
