EMC bundling backup services with Iomega drives

EMC extends consumer strategy with integrated backup solutions bundle

EMC has announced the first release in its new integrated backup solutions for the consumer market, with a bundle that brings together products from three recent acquisitions.

Iomega external hard drives will come with a downloadable software bundle of Retrospect Express backup software and access to MozyHome online storage service.

Mohammed Amin, regional manager, EMC Middle East & North West Africa said: "The combination of Iomega external hard drives with Retrospect backup software integrated with Mozy online backup service means storing, protecting and accessing digital files is now easier than ever before.

"Computer users now have a seamless backup system for local backup of every file, as well as backup to the cloud for files that warrant another copy. This bundled solution provides the versatility of any time, anywhere access," he added.

All three elements of the bundled offering - Iomega, Retrospect and Mozy - come from recent acquisitions by EMC, as the company looks to extend its presence in consumer and small business markets.

The bundle will begin shipping in the US from August, with a global roll out planned for later in the year.
