Defendants deny attacking motorist after he warned them there was smoke coming from their car
Two men who warned of smoke coming from the car of another driver, while stopped at traffic lights, were attacked with swords, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
The National reports that an Emirati off-duty soldier and his Omani friend warned the occupants of a car pulled alongside them at traffic lights that there was smoke coming from their vehicle.
In an incident that escalated quite quickly, at 1am on March 13 at Beirut Street, Al Qusais, the three Emirati occupants of the car managed to convince the Emirati victim to stop his car further up the road.
The trio emerged from their vehicle brandishing swords, hitting the Emirati, while the Omani ran away, who was chased by two of the occupants.
“I think they were high on drugs and drunk because they couldn’t catch me when I ran away,” the Omani told the court.
One of the two returned to the Emirati man and threatened to decapitate him, hitting him on the head and shoulder. They fled after smashing the windshield of the Emirati victim’s car.
The two defendants, who were identified from a police line-up, deny charges of attempted murder and destruction of property. The third suspect remained unidentified. The case was adjourned until July 26.
