UAE-based retail operator Emke Group is planning to enter Bahrain. Emke is planning to open four hypermarkets a year in Bahrain as part of a BD50 million (US $397.8 million) investment.

The development followed a meeting between Emke Group's managing director, M A Yusuffali and Bahrain's Crown Prince and Bahrain Defence Force Commander-in-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in India in March.

Emke's first store in Bahrain, a LuLu hypermarket, is expected to open in June 2007.
