English Premiership pays staggering wages

But highest paid player in the world is Brazilian AC Milan midfielder Kaka.

AC Milan midfielder Kaka has topped a list of the highest paid footballers in the world in a survey published by France Football magazine.

The rich list, which covers only players' wages, and not any media, image rights or sponsorship revenue they attract, is dominated by English Premier League players. Four of the top ten are Chelsea players, two are from Liverpool and one from Manchester United.

But Spain pays the top wages in Europe, with Ronaldinho of Barcelona pipped to the top spot by Kaka.

The full top ten is:

Kaka (AC Milan): $13.2 million
Ronaldinho (Barcelona): $12.62 million
Frank Lampard (Chelsea): $12.08 million
John Terry (Chelsea): $12.08 million
Fernando Torres (Liverpool): $11.72 million
Andrei Shevchenko (Chelsea): $11.54 million
Michael Ballack (Chelsea): $11.54 million
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United): $11.38 million
Thierry Henry (Barcelona): $11.38 million
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool): $11.38 million
