Entrepreneur of the Week: Abdullah Alzabin, founder of Lumba

A mobile game developed by this week’s Entrepreneur of the Week, Abdullah Alzabin, founder of Dubai-based Lumba, has been recognised as one of Apple’s most noteworthy gaming apps of 2015.

Among thousands of apps in its App Store, Apple chose to include Lumba's Temsa7 Army in its 'Best Apps of 2015' rankings.

Temsa7 Army was developed as part of a collaboration with Telfaz11, a prominent YouTube production studio in Saudi Arabia.

Previously, Lumba’s Tribal Rivals, a combat strategy game set in early 20th-century Arabia, was recognised as one of Apple's 'Best Apps of 2014'.

The mobile game development company, which is focused on the Arabic speaking world, has been headquartered in Dubai since 2015. It was initially established in San Francisco in 2012.

Alzabin aims to redefine Arabic entertainment by developing visually beautiful, culturally relevant and fun Arabic mobile games. The market for such games is growing rapidly; there are 350 million Arabic speakers worldwide, of whom 70 percent are under 30.

In the GCC region the demand has also been increasing because of the rapidly growing smartphone use.

His 25-strong team develops the games in both Arabic and English. They can be downloaded for free on Apple and Android devices while the company generates revenue through in-app purchases.

Lumba games are regularly featured on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store main pages.

Lumba’s success in the app world has already been proven by achieving 4.5 million downloads across their three gaming titles.
