The start-up ecosystem in Abu Dhabi has been thriving since Bern Shen, an entrepreneur, angel investor, and start-up mentor, decided to move to Abu Dhabi from California.
Mr. Shen is a chief medical officer of HealthCrowd, a mobile health start-up; a member of the Band of Angels, the Silicon Valley’s oldest seed funding organisation; and an adjunct faculty member of The University of California San Francisco’s (UCSF) School of Pharmacy and the University of Iowa’s Schools of Medicine and Business.
However, since arriving to Abu Dhabi he has added the following to the already long list of his designations – a Board Member at TechWadi, a non-profit organisation building bridges between Silicon Valley and the MENA region, and a mentor at Astrolabs, the only Google-partnered Tech Hub in the MENA region.
To top it all, Shen was recently appointed as the director of the Abu Dhabi chapter of Startup Grind, a global network of start-ups in over 170 countries. On a monthly basis, he will volunteer his time and expertise to help the emirate’s entrepreneurs reach new heights.
Without any hesitation, this week’s Entrepreneur of the Week accolade goes to Bern Shen.
