Sensing an opportunity is what has led this week’s Entrepreneur of the Week, Mohamad Sharif Al Zarooni, to grow Dimara International to the top of the third Dubai SME 100 ranking of small businesses in Dubai.
“I had two things when I started Dimara. I had sensed an opportunity in the hospitality business and had passion and commitment to serve customers to my utmost professional capacity,” the Emirati said.
Starting in 2005 with a small team of 10 people, Al Zarooni began supplying towels, toiletries, bedding and other products to hotels, hospitals and airlines. Today, his clients’ list includes many of Dubai’s five-star hotel operators including Jumeirah Group, Four Seasons, Hyatt and Ritz-Carlton.
“How have I been successful? Because I have worked 16-hour days in the company,” he told local media (The National)
Launched in 2011, the Dubai 100 SME ranking is a biennial initiative of Dubai SME, the agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED), to honour owners and executives of small and medium sized businesses in the emirate.
It ranks companies according to their audited accounts that are independently verified.
Dimara International, which now employs 55 people and has branches in three other markets, was ranked at 71st place in 2011 and sixth place in 2013.
Commenting on his company’s success, Al Zarooni thanked his management and staff for their work.
