Founder of the UAE-based shopping search engine was the only Gulf entrepreneur chosen to take part in a prestigious Silicon Valley programme
Competing with thousands of entrepreneurs worldwide, Moustafa Mahmoud, founder of ShopShopMe.com, a UAE-based shopping search engine, was chosen to represent the UAE at Blackbox Connect, a Google For Entrepreneurs-powered programme, in Silicon Valley in August 2015.
Among 22 entrepreneurs who took part in this year’s two-week, residential programme designed to immerse international start-up founders in the Silicon Valley culture, ShopShopMe.com was the only start-up from the GCC region, and the only one to have won the "Best Pitch" award.
Blackbox Connect, a founder-focused accelerator established by Fadi Bishara in Silicon Valley in 2010, brings around 20 of the best global start-ups to Palo Alto every year to help them meet with investors, develop relationships in the Silicon Valley ecosystem, and launch into the wider US market.
As a serial tech entrepreneur with more than 10 years of experience, the founder of ShopShopMe.com also sits on the Advisory Board of the Canadian University in Dubai, and is a Young Arab Leaders (YAL) mentor, and speaker and author on e-commerce related topics.
ShopShopME.com, a shopping search engine available in both English and Arabic, has enjoyed 80 percent growth month-on-month.
During their stay in Silicon Valley, they applied for a patent for AdRelated.com, a contextual product advertising technology, which, Mahmoud says, is the first of its kind in the world. “It is the ‘AdSense of Shopping’ and it’s a revolution in product advertising,” he adds.
As a result of his regional achievement and global recognition, Moustafa Mahmoud is the worthy recipient of this week's Entrepreneur of the Week.
