Etihad fills key jobs in Japan expansion move

Two senior appointments made as airline prepares for Tokyo launch in 2010.

Etihad Airways has announced the appointment of Masatsugu Nishiyori (Nick) and Juan Torres to head up its offices in Japan as it prepares to launch new services to Tokyo in 2010.

Nishiyori will serve as the airline’s vice president – general manager in Japan, while Torres will take up the position of commercial manager.

Etihad is scheduled to start a five-flights-a-week service from its Abu Dhabi home base to the Japanese capital Tokyo, from March 2010. The airline also has the option to start flights to the regions of Kansai and Chubu.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief commercial officer, said: “Our senior representatives in Japan bring extensive experience and expertise to this dynamic and unique market, where they will play a key role in establishing our commercial organisation and offices.”

Nishiyori has held several senior strategic roles in All Nippon Airways (ANA) in finance, sales and marketing, network strategy and distribution, while Torres has a wealth of commercial airline experience in senior management positions at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Etihad Airways.
