Etihad issues customer warnings

Airline keen to prepare customers for new baggage restrictions.

Etihad Airlines is working to inform customers about the introduction of new hand baggage rules regarding the transportation of liquids.

"With any change in procedure our main priority is to keep our customers fully informed on how they will be affected," Geert Boven, Etihad Airways' EVP sales and services, said. "It is vital that passengers are given sufficient time to prepare for the new regulations which will ensure a smoother travel experience."

The new rules introduced on May 1, implemented in Europe in November 2006, will put a 100mm limit on all liquids, aerosols and gels carried in hand luggage and stipulate that all containers fit into a one liter transparent and re-sealable plastic bag that will then be examined by security officials. Etihad is keen to make sure its passengers are aware of the rules.

"Etihad will go to every effort to ensure that our passengers are aware of what they can bring on as hand-baggage and what must go in the hold," said Mr Boven. "This is especially important for passengers travelling with babies or young children or those who need to take medication and may be concerned about the impact of the new regulations."
