Ex-HP head joins Batelco

Former HP Mideast MD Joseph Hanania is confirmed as CEO of Jordanian mobile operator Umniah.

Former HP Middle East managing director Joseph Hanania has been confirmed as the new CEO of Jordanian mobile operator Umniah.

Umniah, which is a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain, claims to be the fastest growing mobile operator in Jordan after netting more than 700,000 subscribers in its first year of operations.

Hanania will be responsible for leading Umniah's strategy and expanding the company on a local and regional basis.

"The Jordanian market is continuously becoming more attractive to many professional investors and we are proud to play a key role in its development," said Hanania. "Umniah is committed to providing innovative telecommunications services that add great value to its customers," he continued.

Hanania boasts more than 20 years' experience in the ICT market including 13 years at HP where he initially managed the vendor's North American sales business. He also spent time as the manager of a joint venture between AT&T, South Western Bell and Bell South in the US.
