Hollywood star Vin Diesel has announced the release date of Fast and Furious 7, parts of which are scheduled to be filmed in Abu Dhabi.

The actor has posted a picture of him next to his late co-star Paul Walker on his official Facebook page with the caption: "Fast and Furious 7 will be released 10 April 2015!"

Earlier this month, Universal Pictures shut down production on the movie indefinitely following the death of one of its stars Paul Walker.

The studio announced that the film will shut down "for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise".

Approximately 80 to 120 cast and crew, including star actors Diesel and Walker, were due to arrive in Abu Dhabi to film scenes at some of Abu Dhabi’s iconic landmarks.

The seventh installment of the street car racing series had begun shooting in September including some work in the UAE capital.

Walker died after the driver of the Porsche he was travelling back from a charity event in lost control and hit a lamppost.

When Walker died in the crash on Saturday north of Los Angeles, the film was on break for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The latest instalment in the franchise is the follow up to Fast and Furious 6, which was released in May 2013.

The film made $789m (£482m) at the global box office and Universal Pictures have said they will donate proceeds from the upcoming DVD release to Walker's charity, Reach Out Worldwide.
