Filming of A-Team movie set for Dubai

Hollywood studio to film movie version of popular 80's TV series in emirate, according to report.

A movie version of popular 80’s TV series 'The A-Team' is set to be shot in Dubai, it has been revealed.

Filming for the movie could begin before the end of 2008, UAE daily Emirates Business 24/7 reported on Thursday.

Local firm Filmworks have confirmed that the remake will go ahead but refused to disclose details due to confidentially reasons, the newspaper said.

Movie producers need to obtain approval from a range of government bodies including the National Media Council, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Civil Aviation and Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Hollywood insiders have claimed Ving Rhames could take the role of ‘BA Baracas’, Jim Carrey will play ‘Howling Mad Murdoch’, Christian Bale will portray ‘Face’ and Mel Gibson will play team leader ‘Hannibal Smith’, the newspaper said. Other rumours place actor Ice Cube as 'BA Baracas'.

The movie is scheduled to hit cinemas in June 2009.

The A-Team, an American adventure series about a fictional group of ex-US Army special forces, on the run from the military, achieved cult status through its cartoon-like violence, and catchphrases of character BA Baracus, played by popular actor, Mr T.

Plans for the remake have reportedly been discussed in Hollywood ever since the series' 98-episode run came to an end in 1987.

I pity the fool that doesn't think Dubai would be a great place to film "The A-Team" - for a start they wouldn't have to close off the roads for the car chase scenes - nobody would notice any difference on SZR, they could weave across the lanes and drive like idiots all they liked, just as long as they've got their salik tags installed.....

My friends and I were at (junior) high school when the A-Team was first aired on TV in the early 1980's and we were totally addicted. The actors rumoured to play the roles of the original cast couldn't have been better. I wonder if the surviving members of the original cast (Dirk Benedict, Mr. T and Dwight Shultz) will take part. Can't wait for this movie to come out!

IMDB have Bruce Willis as Hannibal - far more likely, given that Gibson buried his career when he said he hated the blue suede shoes. Woody Harrelson for Murdoch and Ice Cube for BA Baracus (Ving Rhames would be soooooo much better). I think they should stick Steve Carell in there somewhere, too.

Many a drunken convo down the pub with my choice would be: Hannibal - Tommy Lee Jones or George Clooney BA - Duncan Clarke (fella off green mile) Ice Cube would be awful!! Terrible actor Faceman - Matthew McConaughey Murdoch - Jim Carrey or Brendan Fraser
