Abu Dhabi will see its first JW Marriottt branded hotel property when the JW Marriott Abu Dhabi Resort and Spa opens its doors in the first quarter of 2009.
The agreement for the five-star resort - under construction on the former Gulf Hotel site - was signed by Marriott International and Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) during the Arabian Travel Market last week.
ADNH chairman His Excellency Khalifa Nasser Bin Huwaileel Al Mansoori said the hotel would be "one of the most important additions to our fast growing hotel and resort portfolio, and will help raise the profile of Abu Dhabi regionally and internationally".
The 360-room hotel will feature several interconnected towers, with 88 one-, two-, and three-bedroom chalets, 33 executive suites and large banquet facilities.
Several rooms will overlook the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Marriott president Ed Fuller said the company was excited to be entering the Abu Dhabi market.
"We have no doubt that the new resort will be a major landmark in the UAE capital, and will attract regional and international visitors for its unique and inspiring waterfront, state of the art facilities, and pleasant atmosphere," he said.
The combination of a beach side location, and spa and business facilities would make the resort popular with both business and leisure travellers, Fuller concluded. For all the latest travel news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
