Dubai budget carrier says passengers can buy packages starting at $4 to get connected during a flight
Dubai-based flydubai has announced the addition of WiFi connectivity, live television streaming and a new seatback inflight entertainment system to its cabins.
WiFi connectivity and Live TV was launched earlier this week and is available on selected flights initially as flydubai continues to roll out the service across the rest of its fleet.
The wireless satellite-based network will allow passengers to buy a package costing from $4 to get connected during a flight using their personal devices and from $8 to tune in to TV services, the budget carrier said in a statement.
flydubai said it has partnered with Global Eagle Entertainment to launch the system which includes a library of more than 2,000 hours of on-demand content and the capability to stream live TV.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: "flydubai has been committed to investing in product innovations and technologies that enhance the travel experience for our passengers from day one. We want to offer customers more choice, a greater experience and affordable access to the technologies we are all coming to expect in the air, just as we do on the ground.
"Adding WiFi connectivity, live television along with our enhanced ground-breaking inflight entertainment system will allow us to continue to deliver that personalised flying experience our customers expect and appreciate."
The carrier relaunched its inflight entertainment system in 2012 introducing more content and a friendlier user interface.
Daniel Kerrison, vice president of inflight product at flydubai, added:: "We are excited to be offering as many creative and innovative product choices as we can to our passengers and giving them the option to decide which products and services they wish to include in their travel experience."For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
