Food retailer eyes 32 new Saudi stores by 2015

Food retailer Dairy Queen has signed an agreement with franchisee Al Safwa Food Group to open multiple locations in Saudi Arabia.

The move into Saudi Arabia will see the first Dairy Queen open in Riyadh in spring 2011 with a projected total of 32 locations by 2015.

Dairy Queen currently has locations in the Middle East countries of Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and the UAE.

Riyadh-based Al Safwa Food Group is a new retail holding group whose members previously were involved in the casual dining segment in Saudi Arabia.

"When we open in Saudi Arabia, Dairy Queen will have locations across the GCC countries and in Egypt; we look forward to future expansion in other neighbouring Middle Eastern countries," said Rose Nichols, director of international development for International Dairy Queen Inc.

"We predict that the Saudi market will be a huge success as Saudi consumers are eager to try new brands and products."

Dairy Queen, which currently has more than 680 locations outside the US and Canada, is an international chain of soft serve and fast food restaurants.

I have great feelings of sucsses for DQ in Saudi arabia,as it has on of the best beef hamburgers and its varity of Ice Cream,I think with the proper management by keeping quality food at its best and the freindly service they will do great business in the region. Having previous dining expierinces at DQ in the US I congratulate the franchisee on picking such a good brand and hope to eat their great burgers soon. Best regards, Hisham
