Footballer poised to hear gun case verdict

Court date set for UAE player accused of making threats with revolver.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance is expected to give its verdict on August 17 in a case against a UAE football player accused of threatening to shoot a military personnel with a revolver.

According to court papers, the incident happened in the parking lot of a hotel in Dubai Marina on March 19, Khaleej Times reported on Monday.

The complainant was coming out of a bar late at night when he saw the football player, whom he recognised, arguing with another Emirati.

As he approached them, the player shouted at him and asked him to go away or he would beat him up.

Soon after, the defendant's friend came after the complainant offering to sort things out. As they reached the parking lot, the footballer brandished a revolver and asked the complainant to get down on his knees or he would shoot him.

As the victim knelt down, the player kicked him in his chest and then shot in the air.
