Forefront out in 'the next month'

Microsoft will finally launch its business client security product this month, after four years of development.

Microsoft will finally launch its business client security product this month, after four years of development.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said last week at a technology event held in Amsterdam the company will launch Forefront Client Security, its antivirus and anti-spyware product for business and desktops within "the next month".

The product has been in beta testing for more than a year and Microsoft had previously said it would be released at the end of June.

Forefront Client Security is a combination of products acquired from other companies and Microsoft's own in-house development; the company is positioning it as an all-in-one security product for business PCs.

Ballmer admitted in his speech the firm has only focused on security in the past five years. "Security issues started to increase with higher Internet usage and then reflected in our products. When this happened we committed ourselves to the reliability of our core products," he said.
