Two Nakheel employees have been formally charged with fraud after spending six months in jail without charge, according to media reports.

Matt Joyce, managing director of the Dubai Waterfront development, and his colleague Marcus Lee were arrested on suspicion of bribery in January.

The Australian pair were charged with fraud last week but no date had been set for a trial, according to a report on the website of Australian news network ABC.

Their lawyer, Martin Ahmad, said he was seeking more information about the charges against the pair.

"They both were working for Nakeel, which is a development company in Dubai," he said in the report.

"The allegation is that in their employment they were somehow involved in fraud, the details we don't know yet."

Joyce’s wife and three children were still living in Dubai, while Lee’s wife was also still in the emirate, he said.

I do however have a question for AB - How come when there are Arab Nationals involved in tehse types of scandals the full names are never disclosed - just initials - but when it involves expats the full names are plastered with full disclosure??? Can someone please enlighten me? - or am I the only one who noticed this? Thank you.

Ametis, have a heart for God's sake. I don't know who these guys are but for sure, I do know as per the law; "any accuse is innocent until proven guilty". The law will take its course, we are nobody to give judgement or pass remarks and make joke of the situation. Pl consider their family members state of mind.

Unfortunately Joe the legal system here is quite harsh and generally after a police report you are treated as being guilty until you are proven otherwise, hence long periods in jail with no bail.
