French retail brand opens second UAE supermarket

Retailer Fucom has announced the opening of its second Geant supermarket in Abu Dhabi as part of plans to launch more than 30 stores in the UAE.

The new store in Marina Square, Reem Island will be followed by another Géant Hypermarket in Yas Mall in 2014, the company said in a statement.

Fucom is the master franchisee in the region for French hypermarket chain Géant, as well as Geant Online, the UAE's first internet-based hypermarket which opened in June.

Mohammed Ashfaq, head of business at Fucom, said: "The opening of the second Géant supermarket in Abu Dhabi reflects Fucom's commitment to provide quality supermarket shopping experiences in the capital and expand its footprint in the Emirate, whilst strategically aligning with our growth trajectory for the coming year.

"We are overwhelmed by the fantastic response to the Géant brand in Abu Dhabi and are excited to welcome customers to the new store."

The new Géant supermarket boasts retail space of over 3,000 sq m and joins a growing portfolio of stores across the Gulf with operations also in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
