A PC owner reportedly suffered minor burns when the user’s Fujitsu notebook computer overheated and began sparking, according to Reuters news agency.
The notebook in question was running on one of Sony’s faulty lithium-ion battery packs that have been the subject of a worldwide recall programme by the electronics vendor. The incident happened late last month in Japan and is the first of its kind involving a Fujitsu notebook, the manufacturer said.
Fujitsu itself has recalled around 338,000 Sonymade battery packs. Combined with those recalled by other vendors, including Dell, Apple, Lenovo and Toshiba, the total number of packs needing to be replaced currently stands at almost 10 million.
Sony has been forced to slash its profits outlook for its current fiscal year by over half. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
