Futuristic tower wins four awards

The Pad will feature a range of intelligent technologies.

Omniyat Properties has received four CNBC Arabian Property awards, including best interior design for its high-tech building, The Pad. Other categories won by the development company include Best Developer, Best Development and Best Marketing, making The Pad the first multiple award-winning development in the region.

The US $136 million (AED 500 million) project has been hailed by its developers as the most technologically advanced tower in the world when completed.

Located in the Business Bay area of Dubai, the tower has been designed by James Law Cybertecture International, with the interiors by KCA International interior designers. All 231 apartments will have intelligent systems covering everything from communications to entertainment and shopping.

Mehdi Amjad, president and CEO, Omniyat Properties explained the technology of the building: "Cybertecture incorporates the latest technology to give the space the intelligence needed to react, interact and communicate with its users. Structures that incorporate cybertecture within their design aim to enhance and improve quality of life by harnessing the power of technology," he said.

"Technologies such as real-time projection allow residents to alter the façade of the apartment by projecting the beauty of the Caribbean or view of the New York skyline into their windows," he added.

Video conferencing links projected into apartment dining rooms will enable residents to have dinner with friends from around the world in virtual reality.

"Bathrooms will also be fitted with health monitoring equipment that can measure and monitor your temperature, weight and blood pressure. Plus rotating living and dining rooms give a 360-degree view of Dubai and the Business Bay," added Amjad.

The tower development will also feature a retail area with restaurants and cafes and a communal club, which according to Amjad will provide a unique social environment. "The iClub on the podium of The Pad will be designed around the theme of digital water, real water and digital projections to create a stunning setting for the communal facilities."

The club will also include a state-of-the-art gym, running track, swimming pool with an underwater audio system and deck chairs that use ultrasonic speakers. A swimming deck will also overhang the promenade of Business Bay.

The building is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009.
