Pope Francis is visiting Bahrain in November, marking the Catholic figurehead’s second visit to the Gulf region.
The 85-year-old pontiff is visiting a church in Manama, and will be in the country for three days, from November 3 to 6.
“Pope Francis will make the announced apostolic journey to Bahrain from November 3 to 6 this year, visiting the cities of Manama and Awali on the occasion of the ‘Bahrain Forum for Dialogue: East and West for Human Coexistence,” the Vatican said in a tweet on Wednesday.
The visit comes three years after the Pope went to the UAE in 2019 – a landmark event that saw millions of Catholics, mostly expatriates, attend a church service in Abu Dhabi.
In Bahrain, Pope Francis will visit the tent-shaped Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in the desert town of Awali. The church, 20 kilometres south of Manama, can sit at least 2,300 people.
