Qatar’s Interior Ministry confirmed a fire broke out at a building on the Pearl-Qatar manmade island development yesterday, the same day the committee investigating a fire at the Villaggio shopping mall last week, which killed 19 people, was concluded.

The blaze at Pearl-Qatar, which occurred at a building currently under construction at Viva Marina, was brought under control by authorities, the Interior Ministry said on its official Twitter account.

The fire started in the lower floors of the building while workers were still in the upper floors. Rescuers were able to reach them and were evacuated, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA). No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred on the same day the fact-finding committee probing last week’s fire at the Villaggio Mall, which claimed the lives of 19 people, including 13 children, was completed and its report was submitted to authorities.

Headed by HE Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, the committee will announce the results of its findings once relatives of the victims have been informed, the QNA said.
