Mandatory health insurance for Dubai companies by end-June

Dubai Health Authority official says 25% of expats still need to be covered by new scheme

All Dubai businesses will be required to implement mandatory health insurance for their employees by the end of June, a senior official has said.

Dr Haidar Al Yousuf, director of public health funding at Dubai Health Authority, said that the third and final phase of the scheme, which covers smaller companies with less than 100 employees, was nearly complete.

The official said that three quarters of expatriates in the city were already covered by the scheme.

“This means we have 25 percent left to cover by June, we hope to have close to 100 per cent of Dubai expatriates covered by the insurance by the end of next month,” he said, in comments quoted by state news agency WAM.

Al Yousuf warned any companies that failed to implement the mandatory health insurance scheme by the end of June could be subject to penalties.

The DHA health insurance programme is also being enforced through a link to the visa system. Any visa application, either new or a renewal, must have health insurance.
