Covid-19: Oman announces 910 new cases

Oman’s Ministry of Health has detected 910 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, it was announced on Monday.

In a statement quoted by the Oman News Agency (ONA), the country’s Ministry of Health announced the sultanate’s total number of cases now stands at 39,060.

To date, the country has registered 169 deaths as a result of the pandemic.

Additionally, 22,422 patients have recovered.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also had a significant impact on Oman’s economy, particularly its hospitality sector.

According to government figures, the total revenue of Omani hotels in the three-to-five-star category fell by 42.2 percent in the first four months of the year to OR55.18 million ($143.5m), compared to the same period in 2019, as the impact of the coronavirus took hold.

Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show hotel occupancy rates dropped to 42.5 percent by the end of April, compared to 67.1 percent last year.

Globally, there have been over 10.27 million confirmed cases of Covid-19, including over 504,000 deaths and 5.57 million recoveries.
