Two men were killed by Saudi security forces and a third was arrested following an attempted terrorist attack in Dammam last Wednesday, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The official spokesman of the Presidency of State Security said the men, Ahmad Abdullah Saeed Suwaid and Abdullah Hussein Saeed Al Nimer, both Saudi nationals, had been driving a Ford vehicle, packed with five kilograms of the highly explosive RDX substance, down King Saud Street in the city.
The report said: “When requested to surrender themselves, they started shooting at the security men and held up in a building, which required dealing with them according to the situation to neutralize the danger, which resulted in their killing.”
As well as the explosives, a machine gun, two pistols, live ammunition and a sum of money were seized.
The identity of the third man is still to be released pending investigations.
The report added: “The Presidency of the State Security confirms that it continues to pursue and track criminal elements who seek to undermine the security and stability of the homeland and its citizens and residents, in response to the dictates of external enemies, stressing that they will not be able to achieve what they seek and plan.”
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation praised the vigilance of Saudi security forces and their efficiency in confronting the attempted car bombing.
A statement, on Emirates News Agency (WAM), said: “The Ministry reiterated the UAE’s firm position and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in dealing with such acts and underscored its support for all measures taken by the kingdom to protect its security and stability.”
