A Saudi woman and her mother have drowned off the Indonesian island of Lombok, according to media reports.

Arab News said 27-year-old Elham Abdussalam was desperately trying to save her mother Jamilah Abdul Malik, 47, who had been swept away by high waves.

“The mother was suddenly caught in a current and swept out to sea. The daughter dived in to rescue her but both drowned before others arrived to help,” Fawaz Abdullah Althaymin, an official at the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta, is quoted by Arab News as saying.

According to the report, the bodies of the two women, who were on a family holiday, were discovered by locals following an hour-long search. It said the family declined a post-mortem examinations and accompanied the bodies on a flight home on Tuesday.
