Saudi Arabia tops GCC with 18mn visitors in nine months

The kingdom registered more international travellers than any other Arab nation in the first half of 2022

Saudi Arabia registered more than 18 million international arrivals in the first nine months of 2022, higher than any other Arab nation. The government expects to target over 100 million by the end of the decade.

Saudi’s 18 million visitors was followed by the UAE recording over 14 million tourists.

Tourism in Saudi Arabia

According to government data, tourism spending in Saudi hit $7.2 billion in the first half of 2022.

The kingdom’s tourism sector will represent a key focus at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023, which is set to take place at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 1-4.

The focus will be place on the importance of the kingdom reshaping the regional travel and tourism landscape, ATM 2023 will feature Saudi exhibitors including Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA), flynas, Makkah Clock Royal Tower, Asma Hospitality Company, Eye of Riyadh, Du Hospitality and more.

“The ATM 2023 Saudi Summit will offer an ideal forum in which travel professionals and policymakers from across the Middle East and beyond can explore opportunities and challenges within the kingdom’s ever-growing tourism sector,” said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market.

“From upcoming giga-developments such as NEOM and the Red Sea Project to how the kingdom’s latest visa reforms are bolstering its travel sector, we expect Saudi Arabia to represent a major drawcard during the upcoming edition of ATM,” Curtis added.
