UAE-based NMC Healthcare plans to add two new hospitals and a medical centre to its portfolio of operational assets in 2014.
The company said group revenues increased by 12.4 percent to $550.9m in 2013, with net profit up by 15.7 percent to $69.1m.
It said in a statement that its healthcare division’s patients increased by 9.5 percent to 2.1 million while revenue per patient from healthcare services rose by 5.6 percent to reach $111.60.
Hospital bed occupancy rates reached 64.7 percent, despite a 13.5 percent increase in operational beds to 261. it said.
“The Emirate of Dubai’s decision in late 2013 to begin rolling-out mandatory healthcare insurance for all its residents is very positive for both business divisions, as the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) estimates around 66 percent of the Emirate’s residents are without healthcare insurance,” said the company, which has two hospitals and a day surgery in Dubai.
Dr BR Shetty, CEO, said: “A positive UAE macro environment, clear strategy and dedicated management efforts meant strong progress across both our business divisions during 2013. In the Healthcare Division we achieved increased patient numbers, occupancy levels, and revenue per patient. Our Distribution Division continued to deliver excellent results, with positive growth across its increased range of products.”
He added: “Our expansion strategy in the Healthcare Division, through the addition of a total of three new hospitals and a medical centre in 2014 and 2015, has been reinforced by the strong population and economic growth seen in the UAE over the past year and the recent adoption of mandatory healthcare insurance in Dubai.”
The 100-bed Brightpoint Women’s Hospital is expected to open in the first half of 2014, as is the DIP General Hospital.
The company added that the construction of Khalifa City Hospital is “progressing well”, with the concrete structure of the building now complete.
Its target is to begin receiving the first patients starting in the first half of 2015 while the Sanaiya Day Surgery Centre in Al Ain is on track to open in the second half of 2014.
