Concerns about distracted driving, lane swerving and tailgating also rose slightly on 2018, the survey showed.

Motorists in the UAE have reported record levels of driving enjoyment despite concerns about dangerous driving rising slightly, according to new research.

The 8th cycle of the UAE Road Safety Monitor showed that 58 percent of car users enjoy driving in the UAE, an all-time high level, while 81 percent say they are happy with improvements to road infrastructure.

However, concerns about dangerous driving rose slightly (43 percent, up 3 percent on last year), but remains at a relatively low level while motorists are also more worried about speeding (61 percdnt, up 4 percent)

Concerns about distracted driving, lane swerving and tailgating also rose slightly on 2018, the survey showed.

Thomas Edelmann, managing director of RoadSafetyUAE said: “We see positive perception trends with regards to the authorities’ continued efforts in further improving the road infrastructure and the resulting positive factors, especially with regards to driving enjoyment and slightly reduce commute times.

“Still, more needs to be done to educate motorists using the well perceived infrastructure by improving their driving behaviour. We must be cognizant of the fact, that proper behaviour and responsible road users are the main ingredients to make our roads safer.”

The study was commissioned by Noor Takaful and RoadSafetyUAE and was conducted by YouGov in October, based on the views of a representative sample of 1,000 UAE residents.
