A public auction of number plates, organised by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has raised AED19.751 million ($5.4m).
The top lot was the number plate S70, which fetched AED1.9m ($517,000), followed by AA99, bought for AED1.82m ($495.6m); and H333, which went for AED970,000 ($264,000).
The auction, which took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Festival City, saw 90 distinctive numbers go under the hammer, ranging from two digits to five.
In a statement, the RTA said the open or online auctions are held to provide a “neutral and transparent platform” for all bidders.
It added: “RTA tends to hold auctions according to market needs with the objective of maximising customers’ satisfaction and improving the level of service. Such auctions are marked by wide participation and positive rivalry of passionate bidders.”
