Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his love for the city of Dubai and the continued support he has received from the Arab community, as he was awarded Best Men’s Player of the Year for the sixth time at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards.
“I have to say thank you to the Arabic community which is always great with me,” the 34 year-old said in an acceptance speech at the annual sporting event held in Dubai on Sunday.
“I have to thank Dubai. It’s a marvellous place to be, I’m coming every year and I love this place,” headed.
Ronaldo, who won the Serie A title with Juventus and claimed the UEFA Nations League with Portugal in 2019, beat off strong competition from arch rival Lionel Messi, as well as Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah, to take the top award.
Speaking at the 14th Dubai International Sports Conference on Saturday, the global star revealed that he wants to continue playing football “for a few more years” but he is looking to the next stage of his life after he retires from sport.
“I need to prepare for my next life after football. Maybe I want to star in a movie, but I must learn how to act, speak perfect English and also not to be nervous. If I want to achieve this, I need to go out of my comfort zone. And I always want to learn something new. Life does not stop after football,” he told delegates.
