The Abu Dhabi government has ordered more than AED6.6 billion ($1.79 billion) to increase the pension of Emiratis working in public schools.
The new directive will benefit more than 7,600 citizens in the Abu Dhabi public school system by raising their pensions to 80 percent of their total salary.
It is in with the wider UAE’s campaign to attract and retain Emirati talent in the education sector, a statement on WAM said.
The move will not affect current salaries, according to a multi-government study led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge. Instead, eligible employees will receive a higher retirement pension compared to the previous one.
Abu Dhabi aims to attract young Emiratis to enter the public education sector, the statement said.
The UAE earlier announced several welfare packages for nationals, as part of the leadership’s commitment to provide better living standards for its people.
