Long-term winners will be airlines that “embrace change”, former Etihad boss and chairman of Knighthood Global James Hogan, said at the AB UAE Conference held at the Museum of the Future on Thursday.

However, change as Hogan described, can be achieved through six ways. These include restructuring to a new cost bases, innovating with “customer-focused services and products” with a value for money, engaged motivated workforces, embracing new revenue systems, utilising new technology and accelerating climate change, he said.

Hogan also added that aviation is “bouncing back”, as it always does, and with each systemic shock, aviation will be “leaner and smarter” with some key winners. However, legacy airlines and mega-connectors could face “long-term threats”.

Speaking of the aviation market globally, Hogan also said that the Indian subcontinent has a “huge aviation market.”

In addition, Hogan also said that in the next ten years, airlines will become more “efficient” through the development and use of technology, as it was this very technology that ensured that airlines rebounded safely from the pandemic.
