Under the umbrella of the National Programme for Coders, Coders HQ has launched ten initiatives aimed at increasing the number of programmers in the UAE with the goal of achieving the highest number of coders per capita globally.

The initiatives include the establishment of an evaluation headquarters, creation of an ambassador programme, roll-out of a language programmer challenge and the creation of a Tanzu-focused community.

Also included in the initiatives is the organisation of an “OpenHack” hackathon, use of LinkedIn statistics, challenges initiative with Majid Al Futtaim, collaboration between Emirates and Evaluation Headquarters nominating the coders for career opportunities and Global DevSlam specialised in empowering over 15,000 coders in the UAE.

These code-centric initiatives aim to increase the number of programmers in the country and build the reputation of the country’s programming communities as the best in the region, while ensuring they are provided with optimal job opportunities.

Together, these initiatives will support the UAE as a preferred global destination for programmers in a thriving digital economy.

“Strengthening the programming community in the country is an important goal for Coders HQ. The initiatives put forward will help us understand the current state of the coder community, as well as what is required to build their capability, in order to empower them with required skills for future occupations,” said Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.

Al Olama emphasised that the launch of these new initiatives embodies the vision and direction of the country’s leadership to develop advanced programming communities, as well as prepare a new generation capable of using technology to build a competitive knowledge-based economy, saying that the digital economy doubled its contribution to the UAE economy, reaching 9.7 percent.

Coders HQ was launched by the UAE government in January, under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in partnership with more than 40 companies in the country and worldwide.

The project, established in the Emirates Towers, aims to build a new generation of coders, enhance their capabilities and skills in the fields of coding and technology and provide them with the opportunity to design innovative solutions to address local and global challenges.

It features an events space, a supercomputer and several workspaces. Over the coming period, six new coders’ HQs will be inaugurated all around the UAE.

The Coders HQ focuses on four main objectives, namely: classifying the levels of programmers in the UAE, developing their capabilities of programmers and ensuring they have the best opportunities while promoting continuous dialogue between them and experts in the country and abroad.

The National Programme for Coders was launched last July with the aim of training and attracting more than 100,000 progammers to the UAE.
