More than 2.1 million Dubai residents now get the benefit of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) smart electricity and water meters.
That’s a 10-fold jump in the past seven years from Phase 1 numbers, when 200,000 meters were put in place by January 2016.
Smart meters enable customers to benefit from DEWA’s Smart Living initiative, which helps them monitor their consumption independently. Customers can log onto their DEWA accounts through the website and smart app, view their dashboard to monitor their consumption, and also learn about tariff slabs for customers in the residential sector.
The Smart Living initiative also helps the consumers to compare their own consumption with similar homes, to help them manage their use better.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO said: “Smart meters provide many advantages for customers to control their consumption proactively and digitally without contacting DEWA.
“DEWA is working to provide an advanced infrastructure to manage facilities and services through smart and interconnected systems that use technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), among others.”
