UAE telco du has said it will provide customers with alternative solutions to the suspension of some BlackBerry services “in the next few days”.
The country’s second mobile operator said it was “working to ensure… uninterrupted email and instant messaging services” for when Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry E-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing are banned on October 11.
A statement issued by the company said: “We are working to ensure that you [the customer] continue to enjoy uninterrupted email and Instant messaging services.
“In the next few days, we will provide you with detailed information on the alternative solutions”.
The company added that customers would not face any upfront cost with transferring to alternative services.
The telco also said it was working to ensure that customers did not lose any of their contacts and emails when moving from the BlackBerry service.
du has provided answers to customers inquiries regarding the announced decision of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to suspend BlackBerry services (Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry E-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing) from October 11, 2010.
In a statement today the company has advised customers with beneficial information during the coming phase.
As per the instruction received from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, BlackBerry services will continue until October 10, du added.
The company said that customers will be able to continue using their BlackBerry devices for Voice, SMS, and MMS as these do not use the BlackBerry internet service.
Customers will also be able to browse the web using the du browser. Other applications which do not use BlackBerry services will also not be impacted, du said.
While roaming, the Unlimited BlackBerry Data Bundle will not be available after the suspension. Standard data roaming rates will apply, du added.
