Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths has projected record-breaking growth for the emirate’s aviation sector, with Dubai International Airport (DXB) expected to handle 95.3m passengers by the end of 2025, marking a new all-time high for the world’s busiest international hub.
Griffiths said Dubai International Airport has held the
title of the world’s busiest international airport for 11 consecutive years and
will likely reach 100 million passengers by 2027.
He said: “By the end of 2031, passenger numbers are anticipated to approach 115m, and by 2032, operations will transition to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) to accommodate around 124m passengers”.
Dubai Airports growth
Griffiths said this year’s Dubai Airshow would be the largest and most impressive since its inception, calling it the world’s premier aviation event and a global showcase of the latest innovations in aerospace and defence.
He noted that the event will feature new technologies in vertical take-off and landing electric aircraft, space technologies, and advanced defence systems, reflecting Dubai’s growing importance in the global aviation ecosystem.
Griffiths said aviation engineering partners are now finalising the designs as construction continues at Al Maktoum International Airport.
The aim, he said, is to create “one of the greatest airports in the world.”
Griffiths also highlighted that Al Maktoum International Airport has been operational since 2010, primarily handling cargo, executive, charter, and some scheduled flights, as Dubai continues to scale its dual-airport model ahead of the full operational transition.
