Dubai Airports announced flight delays and rerouted planes as heavy rain and unstable weather impacted travel plans in the city.

Emergency services and municipalities across the UAE reacted quickly to protect the safety of citizens on roads across the country and beyond as storms drew weather warnings.

Amid the downpour Dubai Airports confirmed that a number of incoming flights were redirected to nearby airports.

Flights including incoming arrivals from Pakistan, Zurich, Istanbul, Milan, Frankfurt and Tokyo were redirected.

Planes scheduled to land at DXB were rerouted to DWC, Doha International Airport, Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi and Muscat International Airport among others.

For passengers on outgoing flights, Dubai Airports advised checking flight status before setting off and arriving to airports early, due to traffic congestion and flooding near DXB.

It also told passengers to use Metro services for smooth transit.

In a statement, the airport management company said: “Dubai Airports can confirm that normal operations at Dubai International have been affected due to the adverse weather conditions since early hours on Saturday, March 9.

“Consequently, 13 inbound flights have been rerouted to nearby airports. We are actively collaborating with our service partners and airlines to minimise any inconvenience experienced by our valued guests.

“We urge guests flying out of DXB to check their flight status and plan accordingly.

“Due to congestion and water accumulating on the roads, we recommend allowing extra time to travel to the airport. Guests are encouraged to use the Metro for smoother transit”.
