Dubai residents reported of tremors across the city on Tuesday morning following two earthquakes that stuck Iran within an hour.
The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology stated, “A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit southern Iran at 8.35 AM, followed by a more powerful 6.0-magnitude quake at 9.10 AM.”
Residents in various areas, including Downtown Dubai, Dubai Hills, Dubai Media City, and Dubai Sports City, reported of tremors in the locality.
Dubai residents share earthquake experience
A number of people took to social media to describe feeling the after-effects. One resident on Twitter, formerly known as X, said, “Was that an earthquake in Dubai?”
The UAE has previously experienced the after-effects of tremors in Iran.
Iran experiences frequent temblors due to several fault lines crossing the region.
Tremors are sometimes felt in the UAE, especially if they are over a magnitude of 5.0.
In November 2021, a significant quake in Iran was felt across the UAE. Residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates felt a mild shudder lasting up to 20 seconds.
The epicentre was about 100 kilometres from the major port city of Bandar Abbas on the Gulf.
