UAE residence visas will no longer undergo the stamping procedure when renewed or issue, Dubai residents have reported.
The UAE visa will directly be linked to an individual’s Emirates ID and will no longer require a passport with the nation’s visa sticker which details out the residency and its validity.
Travel only with Emirates ID
The Federal Authority for Identify, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) had earlier announced the unification of the two separate applications, in May 2022.
The applications include one, for Emirates ID issuance whereas the second, for renewal of visas for residents in the UAE.
The move was part of the ICP’s efforts to merge residence and identity card applications, rather than go through separate procedures.

However, these changes had initially come into effect in other emirates from May 16, 2022, except in Dubai.
The ICP had also announced along with the changes that there will be a unified form for service for requests regarding the issuance or renewal of a UAE residence visa and Emirates ID.
Airlines will also be able to verify an individual’s UAE residency using their Emirates ID and passport number. Airlines can use a passport reader for verification.
Prior to these changes, anyone applying for a new residence visa or went for a visa renewal were required to submit their passports to get it stamped with the visa.

The authority also announced that individuals can either use the official ICP website or the UAEICP smart app to view their Emirates ID digitally.
The new generation of Emirates ID cards issued to UAE residents will include all details same as the residency sticker. This will also include personal and professional data, readable and non-readable data on the card and details of the issuer.
