New data by YouGov has revealed that 65 percent of UAE residents agree with the statement that traffic is a major concern in their city, as they express concern about traffic in the nation.

The data was collected online among 2008 UAE and KSA residents in November 2022 by YouGov’s Omnibus using its panel of over 20 million people worldwide.

“Among the various cities in the country, 73 percent of residents in Dubai were most likely to say traffic in their city is a major concern for them,” the data showed, adding that females and working individuals were most likely to mirror this sentiment and find traffic problem in their city worrisome.

As per the data, 78 percent of residents in the UAE feel flying taxis are a good option to control city traffic, whereas 77 percent of UAE residents feel this mode of transportation will alleviate traffic congestion.

At least 74 percent of UAE residents feel this mode of transport will only “help a certain stratum of society” and is not meant for everyone.

The recent launch of the Guangzhou-based XPeng Inc’s flying taxi during GITEX 2022 paved the way for UAE residents to have positive perception of flying taxis, as they are also more likely to avail these services in the future.

“Seven in ten amongst those who consider traffic in their city a major concern said they are very or somewhat likely to take a flying taxi, as compared to 58 percent of those who do not think traffic is a problem,” the data showed.

In addition, 59 percent of UAE residents aged between 25 and 34 show favourable attitudes toward flying taxis, while the youngest group of respondents (18-24 years) were more likely than other to say they are unsafe (at 24 percent).

At least 51 percent of UAE residents feel they are “extremely or somewhat safe” whereas 15 percent of UAE residents feel otherwise.

Similar attitudes were seen in Saudi Arabia, where the majority (57 percent) agrees traffic is a major concern in their city but it is lesser than those in the UAE who think the same. Saudi residents are as likely as UAE residents to consider flying taxis a safe option, and are equally likely to take this mode of transport in the future,” the data showed.

On Monday, it was reported that Dubai traffic is set to ease, as three new roads are set to open shortly. The roads are Al Quoz 2, Nad Al Sheba 2 and Al Barsha South 3. The opening of the three roads is set to ease traffic on Hessa Street and spans over 37 kilometres.

“The construction of internal roads at residential districts is a manifestation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of #Dubai,” the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Twitter post added.
