The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) revealed new plans to develop key roads such as Hessa street and Umm Suqeim street.

This was announced by the RTA during a visit to the ITS Centre in Al Barsha by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The projects aim to ease congestion and improve traffic flow, to help benefit commuters and businesses alike.

Hessa Street, which links Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, is in line for a major upgrade. The RTA’s plan involves a 4.5-kilometer expansion, which will boost the road’s capacity to accommodate 16,000 vehicles per hour.

Another road that will undergo changes is the Umm Suqeim Street. This 4.6-kilometer renovation, stretching from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, is expected to match Hessa Street’s capacity increase, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour.

In addition to these projects, the Al Khaleej Street is also slotted for development.

Covering a three kilometre stretch from the Infinity Bridge ramp to Cairo Street, this initiative also includes the construction of three underpasses, totaling 1.65 kilometers.

These underpasses are projected to accommodate approximately 12,000 vehicles per hour, further contributing to the city’s transport infrastructure development.

The move is part of the authority’s efforts to introduce cutting-edge Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), which has led to a 20 percent reduction in travel time and a 63 percent improvement in incident monitoring since its launch in November 2020.

These systems is expected to cover every Dubai road by 2026.
