Saif Ben Sulayem, the son of the FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has passed away after being involved in a car accident in Dubai.
The FIA spokesperson confirmed the news of Saif Ben Sulayem’s death, and the family has requested privacy, so no further comments are expected from either the FIA or Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Saif Ben Sulayem had followed in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in motorsport.
He competed in the 2016-17 UAE Formula 4 series, where he raced against current Formula 1 rookies Logan Sargeant and Oscar Piastri.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Saif’s father, is a former rally driver and the current head of the FIA, which is responsible for overseeing multiple racing disciplines, including Formula 1.
Mohammed was appointed FIA president in December 2021, but he recently announced that he would step back from direct involvement in F1.
The decision came after he had clashed with Formula 1 owners and stakeholders over the possibility of welcoming new teams to the grid and the future of the sport’s media rights, according to a report by Sky Sports.
