UAE Golden Visa: Over 79,500 long-term visas issued

2022 has seen an increase in the number of visas issued as compared to the previous year

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) announced on Wednesday that 79,617 Golden Visas were issued in 2022 across all categories, a significant increase from around 40,000 issued in 2021.

Dubai retained itself as the leading hub for residence and citizenship by investment (RCBI) for the second year, as over 150,000 Golden Visas have been issued since its launch in 2019, according to a report by Swiss boutique firm Passport Legacy.

The number of visas issued per year are increasing in number as more categories open and eligibility increases.

The UAE Golden Visa residency programme was first implemented in 2019 and enables expats to live, work, and study in the UAE without the need of a national sponsor and with 100 percent ownership of their business on the UAE’s mainland.

Apply for the Golden Visa through government channels

Eligible candidates can apply for the Golden Visa using GDRFA-Dubai Smart Application. Here are the 6 steps they would need to follow:

STEP 1 – Download the GDRFA-Dubai application through the authorized stores: Apple store/Play store
STEP 2 – Register a new user account (in case there is no account registered)
STEP 3 – Select the required service
STEP 4 – Attach the required documents
STEP 5 – Pay the fees due for the service
STEP 6 – Submit the request

Eligible candidates can also apply for UAE’s Golden Visa through AMER Center. Here are the 6 steps that need to be followed:

STEP 1 – Head to one of the service branches of the Amer Centers
STEP 2 – Select the required service at the receptionist
STEP 3 – Submit the required documents to the service employee
STEP 4 – Checking documents
STEP 5 – Pay the fees due for the service
STEP 6 – Submit the application

On Tuesday, Arabian Business reported that the UAE has retained its 15th rank as the most powerful passport in the world, according to data from the Henley Passport Index. UAE passport holders can access 178 out of 228 countries without a prior visa, according to the report.

The Henley Passport Index ranks global passports based on the number of destinations passport holders can access without a prior visa.

“With global travel now at around 75 percent of pre-pandemic levels, those with the opportunity to do so appear to be embracing what has been termed ‘revenge travel’,” the report said.
