The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has warned UAE residents to stay cautious while driving as rains engulf parts of the nation.

In an advisory issued on Tuesday, the NCM warned residents to:

  • Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. If necessary, drive with caution, and remain vigilant and alert to ensure the safety of all road users.
  • Turn on low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced.
  • Follow weather forecasts via official channels and be ready to comply with instructions issued by relevant authorities.

The NCM also urged the public to only follow up on official reports by the authority and refrain from spreading rumours.

The authority said Tuesday will see “a chance of convective clouds formation associated with rainfall and fresh winds with a speed reaching 40 kilometre per hour causing blowing dust and the sea to be rough at times over some Eastern coastal areas and Oman sea, from 05:00 AM until 12:00 PM.”

The NCM also reported light rain over Fujairah corniche and moderate rain over Kalba (Sharjah).

The lowest temperature reported on Tuesday was 2.8°C at Jais Mountain (Ras Al Khaimah) at 05:15 AM UAE local time.

On Monday, the UAE Ministry of Interior issued weather alerts as rain and stormy weather took over parts of the country.

Alerts were issued on Twitter urging motorists to be careful while driving due to scattered showers of varied intensity and limited visibility.

“Due to the exposure of several areas in the country to fluctuations in weather conditions accompanied by heavy rains and winds, please take care and caution while driving the vehicle and avoid valleys and places where water flows,” the weather alert read.

Residents in the Emirates took to social media to share videos and images of their view of the rain.
