Expo 2020 Dubai ‘on track to create global destination’

Expo organisers release new video providing update on site activity

The organisers of Expo 2020 Dubai have released a video updating on construction activity at the 438-hectare site.

They claim good progress is being made to develop the site at which Dubai will host the World Expo in three years’ time.

“Expo 2020 Dubai is quickly shaping up to be a global destination to connnect minds and create the future,” the video states.

Using aerial footage, the video maps out the locations of key parts of the Expo site, including the three thematic districts – the Opportunity District, Sustainability District and Mobility District – as well as the central Al Wasl Plaza, UAE Pavilion and Route 2020, the main thoroughfare through the site.

Construction workers are laying 6,100 cubic metres of concrete every week, the video adds.

Located in the emirate’s emerging Dubai South neighbourhood, the vast Expo site will house exhibition pavilions from countries across the world, as well as a range of entertainment and leisure facilities, and food and beverage outlets.

In January, Expo unveiled tenders for $3 billion worth of construction contracts to be awarded in the ensuing months, and announced that a further $98 million of non-construction contracts would be distributed before the end of the year.

It is on track to complete works the year before the event begins in October 2020.
