Two UAE schools have been placed on shortlists for prestigious “World’s Best School” prizes.
The prestigious education prizes recognise the best in school achievement for establishments all over the world.
Gems Modern Academy in Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s Mamoura British Academy have both been featured on shortlists.
UAE schools vie for top award
The two UAE schools have were named in Top 10 shortlists for the $250,000 World’s Best School Prizes.
The five World’s Best School Prizes, were founded last year by T4 Education in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, Yayasan Hasanah, and the Lemann Foundation.
Mamoura British Academy, an independent international school in Abu Dhabi, UAE, which is empowering its students and transforming communities through its pursuit of sustainability, has been named in the Top 10 shortlist for the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action.
GEMS Modern Academy, an independent international school in Dubai, UAE, which is shaping the future of education and empowering students, has been named in the Top 10 shortlist for the World’s Best School Prize for Innovation.
The five World’s Best School Prizes, include:

- Environmental Action
- Innovation
- Overcoming Adversity
- Supporting Healthy Lives
The awards celebrate schools for their pivotal role in developing the next generation of learners and their enormous contribution to society’s progress, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic
The Prizes were established to share the best practices of schools that are transforming the lives of students and making a real difference to their communities.

Mamoura British Academy is part of Aldar Education and is leading the world on sustainable action for a better future just as the global spotlight falls on the UAE as the host of COP28 this year.
Mamoura British Academy’s environmental efforts began with simple recycling projects before growing organically over the years.
Students and staff engage with recycling, sustainable food and an extensive energy reduction project.
If Mamoura British Academy wins the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action, its students are keen to create a desert/forest school.
GEMS Modern Academy has integrated technology and entrepreneurship into its curriculum, and the school has seen a 37 per cent year-on-year rise in student participation as well as national and international collaborations with the likes of DFC, SAP, and Microsoft.
The Top 3 finalists for each of the five World’s Best School Prizes will be announced in September 2023, followed by the winners in October.
A prize of $250,000 will be equally shared among the winners of the five Prizes, with each receiving an award of $50,000.
